Local Service Ministry
Service within the church is the demonstration of the love Christ has bound us together with in bringing us into right relationship with God. Service is also one of the key purposes God established for the people who live under his rule. God created a special people in the world (Israel) so that they would then in turn become a blessing to the other nations. This concept we embody within our local community. There are thousands of people in the Denver area who are hurting and in need. There are many who are unable or even unwilling to reach out because of the weight of the burdens they carry. It is the church’s responsibility to move out into the community and bring hope and healing to those who are willing to receive it. The Service Ministry within The Refuge plays a crucial role in mobilizing our people to put their faith into action. Specific responsibilities of this ministry include:
- Coordinating the service efforts of our class with other ministries within our church body (ex. MMAD Men, Mission: Denver, Tennyson Center, etc.)
- Creating partnerships with local service organizations for increased effectiveness and decreased competition for resources and people.

International Missions Ministry
If we are to fulfill our purpose statements, we must be globally minded Christians who care about and are engaged in the work of the Kingdom around the world. We cannot afford to be content with our own neck of the woods when there is so much to be gained in being connected with and serving others, especially those who do not share our cultural heritage. With this in mind it will be the responsibility of this ministry to increase the group’s awareness and connection with the church international. Specific responsibilities in this ministry also include:
- Keeping the group informed about those facing persecution for their faith in Christ for the purpose of praying and unearthing ways in which we might help those in need.
- Maintaining contact with the Church of the Nazarene’s denominational headquarters in order to inform us about what is happening in the lives of Nazarene missionaries as well as connecting us to ways we can help them.
- Maintaining a connection with the Denver First Church Missions Council to facilitate involvement in our church’s efforts to minister around the world.
- Maintaining a connection with Blake and Lindsay Berry as missionaries who will be specifically sent and supported by our congregation.
