Marriage Ministry

One of the reasons The Refuge exists is because of a felt need within the congregation to have a place where couples could focus upon marriage-related issues.  The Refuge is focused on spiritual formation as well as marriage-building.  Because of the ways contemporary society has begun to redefine marriage (in both concept and practice), as well as the plague of serial monogamy running rampant in at least three generations of the church, it is vital that the church instruct, train, and support couples as they pursue marriage in biblical terms.  We can no longer take for granted a man and woman’s commitment to one another.  Therefore, it is our intent to make marriage building an intentional focus of our class through the efforts of leading couples who will coordinate this aspect of our ministry.  Specific responsibilities of this ministry include:

  • Finding mentoring relationships for couples
  • Lead/Host/Coordinating a small group on marriage issues at least once per year
  • Host/Coordinating participation in marriage seminars and conferences in the area
  • Organizing a systematic approach for couples to do date nights
  • Coordinating training in general relationship-building skills for everyone in The Refuge
  • Assisting the Teacher(s) in developing curriculum addressing marriage issues
