Christian Education & Discipleship Ministry

It has been widely observed in recent studies of Christians and Christian belief in the western world that not only is genuine faith in Christ on the decline within this context, but also that biblical and theological illiteracy is on the rise.  In addition, the many varieties of spiritual beliefs and practices, as well as the consistent returns to paganism demonstrated by our culture, have so diluted authentic Christian faith and practice that in many places it is difficult to identify a coherent system of beliefs and practices that are actually guiding an individual or family’s sprituality.  In order to combat the trends that are causing great confusion to both believers and non-believers alike, it is the primary concern of the Discipleship and Educational Ministries Unit to formulate an authentically Christian (not necessarily original) process of discipleship and develop the means for bringing that process to bear on the life of the people in the Refuge.  Our primary goal is to develop an understanding of Christian maturity and then provide people with opportunities to get there.  Specific responsibilities of this ministry include:

• Assisting the Teacher in researching and developing curriculum for the Sunday class times as well as other potential venues (such as small groups, conferences, seminars, etc.)
• Connecting less mature Chrisitians with Christians further down the road of maturity in mentoring/discipleship relationships
• Developing the process of discipleship the mentoring relationships will follow, which will outline basic tenants of the Christian faith, as well as some of the more intricate details of Nazarene doctrine
• Developing programming that will address the issues of biblical and theological illiteracy
